There's more than one way to stay healthy, and if you ask those around you what a healthy lifestyle is, you'll likely get a different answer each time. This difference is due to the fact that everyone makes decisions based on their cultural and personal priorities and only has access to options that are available in their socioeconomic and geographic environment (Cockerham, 2021). A healthy lifestyle can therefore be defined as a pattern of health-promoting behavior based on the
personal choices.

So what do we mean by healthy behaviors? Simply put, it can be any habit associated with positive health effects, as well as the absence of practices harmful to health. With so many choices, it's important to understand the benefits of healthy choices and distinguish them from unhealthy ones.
The Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle
Scientists have long studied the effects of lifestyle on health and well-being. A large meta-analysis using health outcomes data from more than 500,000 people found that following a healthy lifestyle was associated with a lower risk of mortality (Loef & Walach, 2012).

A recent study tracked the health habits and performance of more than 120,000 participants over three decades. People who met the researcher's criteria for a healthy lifestyle were significantly less likely to die prematurely from cardiovascular disease or cancer (Li et al., 2018). But how much lower is the risk of premature death when people are healthy? According to this study, women with healthy habits lived on average fourteen years longer than their unhealthy counterparts (Li et al., 2018). In contrast, healthy males lived another 12 years (Li et al., 2018).

Of course, living longer isn't the only benefit of a healthy lifestyle. A study of more than 3,000 men and women aged 55 to 85 found that those who lead healthy lifestyles have outperformed their peers in all areas (Visser et al., 2018). For example, those in the healthy lifestyle group were faster on fitness tests and less likely to show symptoms of depression (Visser et al., 2018). They also experienced slower declines in cognitive function and social interaction (Visser et al., 2018).

1. Exercise regularly:

If you don't exercise regularly, this has probably been your goal for a while. But sticking to an exercise routine is easier said than done. However, once you incorporate it into your routine, it becomes an easy habit to stick with. As you may know, exercise has many physical and mental benefits that impact our daily lives. To reap the rewards, plan on doing strength training three times a week and cardio twice a week.You also need to actively rest two days a week!

2. Maintain a healthy weight:

Weight is also an important measure that can determine the development of future diseases and conditions as well as influence existing health problems.

3.Get up more often and avoid sitting and/or standing still:

Sitting in a chair for too long can cause many diseases. Simply standing for a few minutes can reduce your risk. So for those of you who work at your desk all day, if you can take a few minutes to walk around and stretch. Additionally, if you can stand and work at a desk, it's a healthy alternative to sitting.Adding simple standing stretches can further improve your circulation and metabolism.

4. Avoid sugar:

According to many experts, sugar is not beneficial and harmful to health. Processed sugar can lead to weight gain, which can lead to certain diseases.Sugar does not contain essential nutrients and is bad for your teeth. The fructose in sugar can damage your liver and cause insulin resistance, which can lead to type 2 diabetes. So take a look at your diet and consider how much sugar you eat each day and/or weekly. Knowing how much sugar you eat can help you determine how much sugar to eliminate from your diet.

5.Choose healthier fats:

Not all fats are the same. You should avoid "unhealthy" fats and choose "healthy" ones as they affect your physical abilities. Healthy fats can help reduce pain
